Symptoms include: uneasiness; panic attacks; self-consciousness; scared of making a mistake or looking stupid around someone; physiological effects when in a social situation (e.g. heart palpitations; queasiness; trembling; discomfort etc)…. etc..
If you feel like you cannot connect with people like others, maybe you need to think about your past (e.g. social events/relationships that have shaped you into the individual today). Have you ever had a close friend? How are your relationships with your parents and family? Who is the best person you can ‘connect’ with, and why do you think this is?
These few questions may lead you to see the potential you have or haven’t got to connect with others, and what you need to work on in order to achieve better relationships. This may also be something that a psychologist/social worker can assist you with.
panic attacks,uneasiness,a feeling of insecurity.
relax and try to take it easy and get yourself under control.the more you keep telling yourself that you can’t connect the more you will not be able too.find something positive about yourself that you would think people would be interested in and focus on that as your goal.
effects on thinking: worrying a lot about what other ppl think of you, loss of concentration, poor short term memory, focusing a lot of attention on yourself, being painfully aware of what you do and say, doing a post mortem after the event, trying to find anywhere where you messed up, mind going blank, unable to think of what to say
Effects on behaviour: Keeping safe in social situations, ie. only talking to the ‘safe’ people or just taliing about ‘safe’ topics, avoiding eye contact, avoidance of feared social situations
Effects on body: blushing, sweating, trembling, feeling tension in the stomach and rest of body, heart pounding, dizzziness or nausea, breathlessness
Effects on emotions: Nervousness, anxiety, fear, apprehension, self-consciousness, frustration and anger, feeling unconfident or inferior, feeling sad, depressed or hopeless about being able to change
